Jar of Mexican Fire Opals

This beautiful assortment of small natural red and orange Mexican Fire Opals is shown dry and weighs 86.95 grams (slightly over 3 ounces). The pieces can be tumble polished, cabbed, faceted or drilled to use as beads. Some pieces have small bits of grey matrix attached. They can also be used for inlay, intarsia and mosaic projects. Coins are not included and are shown for size reference only.
Mexican fire opal is a transparent-to-translucent gemstone ranging from fiery yellow to deep red, colored by iron oxide and measures 5.5 – 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. They are often faceted and shaped into cabochons for rings, earrings and necklaces. Fire opal is the national gemstone of Mexico. Metaphysically, Mexican fire opal is associated with increased creativity, energy, and emotional balance.
